Country kitchen designs are warm and welcoming. In cities like Melbourne, they are the true heart of the home where family and friends love to linger while delicious meals are prepared and freshly baked pies and cakes sit cooling on wide kitchen benchtops.
While this may sound ideal to many, at Rosemount Kitchens we understand the challenge in designing a rustic kitchen that captures the heartwarming atmosphere without looking old fashioned, out-dated or kitsch.
These styles of kitchen must also incorporate the vastly improved functionality you get with today’s cutting-edge materials, fittings and storage solutions.
What Is A Country-Style Kitchen?
Country-style is a broad term and means different things to different people – from rustic, farmhouse, cottage and even barn in style to French provincial, Hampton-inspired and modern country.
Keep in mind that when we talk about “modern” and “modern country”, we’re referring to two quite different design styles.
True modern is simple, streamlined and sleek with clean, strong horizontal lines and a sense of symmetry.
Modern Country-style, however, typically adds character through features, including:
Profile panels and doors
Warm timber or stone floors and benchtops
Large protruding ceramic sinks
Turned posts on island benches
Soft, neutral colour palettes
Accent shades like subtle greens, delicate blues and cool greys
These kitchens have traditionally had the luxury of generous floor plans and spacious layouts, but we’re increasingly seeing them used successfully in smaller spaces, and even apartments.
There is a focus on natural materials and high quality craftsmanship. Anything obviously man-made or plastic is out of place.
Here are a few great ideas to include:
Beautiful stainless steel, traditional porcelain or charming Butlers ceramic sinks combine with elegant tap ware and tiled splashbacks.
Flourishes such as open shelving displaying your favourite crockery, glasses and jugs – they might also include a collection of hanging pots and pans.
A wooden table, with intricate turned legs can be used in place of an island bench and makes a great space to prepare food.
Modern country kitchens often blend French Provincial and the ever-popular Hampton style. They might include:
Rosemount’s service was outstanding from start to finish. We love our new kitchen and couldn’t be happier with the experience we had. I would highly recommend Rosemount without hesitation.
Rosemount made this an easy and mostly seamless undertaking for us and the results are significantly better than we anticipated. To say we are delighted with our new kitchen is a gross understatement. It is just sensational.

I’m sure we could have done our reno cheaper (although we did have a more expensive quote), but we couldn’t have done it better or had a smoother trouble free experience with such great trades and final result.
We have referred loads of people to Rosemount. They weren’t the cheapest company but for me it’s about the quality of the product. You get what you pay for.
A complete kitchen renovation was performed with as little disruption as possible to our household. Having had plenty of work done around the house over the years, I recognise and appreciate quality work, and Rosemount provide that in abundance. They’re also terrific people to deal with.
People love the kitchen, and are blown away with the transformation. And for me it’s not just beautiful, every part is so functional.
This was our first time renovating, so it’s fair to say there was a little bit of trepidation on our part. But our experience was very positive and we’re thrilled with our new kitchen.
We’re thrilled with how the kitchen renovation has turned out. It’s gone from the darkest to the lightest room in the house. It looks so beautiful and I just love it.
Our decision to contract Rosemount resulted in a high end result, within budget and on time. The company’s wonderful team had the expertise, experience and dedication to guide the project from start to finish making the renovation a great experience and not a burden.
Rosemount were by far the best of the trades we dealt with in our whole renovation, and continue to be. And we had a great kitchen designer who was clearly excited about doing something a bit different and edgier. He really brought some of my ideas in the kitchen to life.
